Moving on from Bimini, we left for Cat Cay in the afternoon
of 1/11/13 for a short haul to Cat of 14 Nm.
It turned out to be a very rough one as the wind clocked to the South
and on the nose. Taking the dogs ashore
after dark Bill and I managed to get wet as well as I stumbled getting in and
fell on Bills knee. I believe I either
bruised or cracked a rib and it is still bothering some2 weeks later.
We headed for Chub
Cay at 0430 on Sunday, a trip of 76 Nm from Cat, and arrived at 1730. Francie manage
to catch a 36” Barracuda which we tossed back for fear of the poison some of
them carry. Reading the chart book and listening to the weather we thought that
another early run was in order. We
should have waited a day as the wind clocked around to “on the nose” for
another rough ride to Nassau 33nm away. We arrived at Goodman Bay at low tide and located a good
spot that we would not get caught high and dry.
We were anchored down in time for lunch.
The dogs were overjoyed with the beach and running room.
We moved to Nassau
Harbor to wait out another front from the North on Wednesday. We filled with fuel and water, did some
grocery shopping, and of course managed to stock up on some other boat supplies
at the nearby marine stores.
Friday AM we
departed for Allen’s Cay to visit the Iguanas
and stay away from the strong Northerly’s . We tried a little fishing,
but not the catching part. We celebrated
Bill’s birthday there with some brownies that Francie cooked and matches for
candles.
We left Allen’s
Cay and sailed to Norman’s Cay 11nm and arrived at So. Table Bay. When the dogs
saw the beaches It was “We ain’t leaving”. All of us enjoyed that bay, but the need to
communicate home brought us farther
south to Compass Cay on Thursday where
we hope for some internet.
Compass Cay is
beautiful as usual, and Tucker Rolle and his grandson Trayvon are great
hosts. This Morning we actually
harvested a few conch which will taste great.
