5/2-5/7/11 Georgetown SC to Belhaven NC

We left Georgetown, SC on 5/2/11 and and traveled up the Wacashaw River through some really pretty country, managing to get a good ride with the tide and a nice wind. We were able to stay with these most of the way to our stop at Calabash Creek on the North Carolina border. Skipper was able to find a nice patch of woods for his shore duty which made everyone happy. We played cribbage with Bill and Barb that evening and decided we would leave around 7am to try the tide again.
On 5/3 we did well on our progress till we came to the Cape Fear River, where if we hadn't had a favorable wind I do believe we would have gone backwards. As we turned from the river to canal we were able to pick up speed and sailed all the way to Wrightsville Beach for a great stop. We ate pizza ashore and Skipper was very great full to see the beach. 5/4 was a stay over day for shopping and a trip to West Marine.
On 5/5 we headed North again with a definite temperature change. We were asking ourselves if we were going the correct way. It seemed strange to be looking through our clothing for warm clothes. We pulled in to Swansboro to a marina for the evening and a great Hot Shower to bring the bodies back in circulation.
5/6 we headed out again with a good wind but very cool day and made it to Adams Creek for the night's anchorage. 5/7 started out with quite a strong breeze on the beam to we were able to make good time - as long as we had coats and long pants. We made Belhaven, NC that night and went ashore for a look about. It is a very nice and very old looking town with a great hardware store and many beautiful homes. We will put his one on our stop-at list and spend more time next time.
