The traveling gypsy's made it to Solomons Island Md and are anchored in Mill Creek by Susie and Franks home.  This is considered a hurricane hole and I guess we have some wind coming.  We had a great trip down from Atlantic Highlands, sailing about 80 NM. to Atlantic City NJ.  It is much fun to be moving along on a broad reach with the engine shut down and enjoying the scenery or lack there of.  We had a hitch hiker that flew aboard, a sparrow,  and rode along for many miles.  Skipper was asleep so he was safe for awhile and Francie manage to boot him off before any problems.  The wind changed to on the nose  and after starting the engine decided to enter at Atlantic City NJ for the night.  This made Skipper happy as he got to shore .  We hauled anchor at 5AM and motored out and down the coast to Cape May NJ  as the wind was non existing. We had a favorable tide for the run up Delaware Bay as well as some breeze to help the iron spinnaker along.  We anchored at Reedy Island after dark, took Skipper ashore and left on the morning tide through the C&D canal to the Chesapeake Bay and anchored in the Sassafras River about 2 PM.  Very early day, but not much sense in bucking the tide.  Francie, Skipper and Ken very happy, afternoon nap couple of brews and a long walk for Skipper.  Cocktail hour with shrimp and crackers and set up the grill for an on deck meal and watch the sunset.  Our early morning starts manage to get us another favorable tide which we rode to Gailsville Md and another afternoon stop and dog walk. Great sunset with the temps tolerable for eating in the cockpit  Friday at 5 Am we hauled anchor for our run to Solomons Island  and with motor and a little breeze arrive around 2PM.  We set 2 anchors for the coming storm and Saturday with the help of Lisa and Tony took the sails,  Bimini and dodger down.  We also secured anything that might blow or get damaged below deck.  Today it is blowing steady 25 KT with gusts much higher.  Tomorrow Monday it is supposed to be the worst with much stronger winds.
We will continue our journey when things quiet down.  It will probably not be before the end  of this week.  There will have to be a constant watch for debris for a while.

  1. I think I heard about your blog at the reunion, but not being into them, dismissed it. Today I received your daily writing and was so intrigued, I looked you up. WOW...how cool!!! I don't know the terminology, but I guess I'll learn. I think you both are amazing....no fear....just go!!!!! Especially now when the weather is rotten ....to say the least. Your boat is gorgeous...the fantastic photos....how great to see your family... I think I've missed a whole lot in the Sheridan family history these past 50 years. Everyone looks very healthy and happy. I spent 40 years near the 79th Street Boat Basin....so thanks for the spectacular pics of "home". And thanks too for opening my eyes and mind....SAFE TRAVELS.
