Hope Town
We stayed in Hope Town, Elbow
Cay, Abacos for a week (Thurs 4/3 - 4/10) ... a very lovely harbor with great
ocean beaches and a beautiful lighthouse. We were joined by our friends
on Wishbone after the had their out put shaft changed at Marsh Harbor Boat
Yard. Both of our dogs loved the ocean beaches as much as their
owners. Francie and I went for a bike ride over most of Elbow Cay
stopping for BBQ ribs at "PaPaNasty's", great name, eh? We also
enjoyed going to "Wine Down Sip Sip" for beer, pizza and skype on the
internet.
Thursday at 0700
we left on a high tide for Man O War Cay to check it out. Another
very beautiful cay with lovely homes and great grocery stores. We had
lunch at Dock and Dine, another great restaurant, but MOW Cay is a dry cay with
no beer. We decided to leave on Friday for Batelco in Marsh Harbor to
once again try to get our phone Hot Spot working right.
Once again
we left on a high tide as both MOW and Hope Town harbor entrance depths at low
tide are not compatible with our draft. Upon arrival at Marsh Harbor we filled
with fuel, water and arrived at the Batelco office as it was
opening. Our customer service rep, Caroline, was happy to see us
and help. Of course the phone started working as soon as we entered the
office, but she had been through enough problems with us to know that there was
still a problem. Caroline and the manager exchanged the phone, battery
and a new sim card to make the system work. As of this message (KOW) everything
is working fine. They also gave us some credit for all the trouble we had
been through.
We sailed from Marsh Harbor in the afternoon for Great Guana Cay to meet up
with Bill & Barb on Wishbone and do more exploring on Guana. Cay. On
Saturday 4/12/14 the four of us with 2 dogs rented a golf cart to tour
the cay in the rain. It is fortunate that we only rented for 4 hours as In less
than 3 hours we went as far as we could travel on the Cay, plus had lunch and
went to the grocery store. It rained more Saturday than all the rest of
the time we have been in the Bahamas.
We hope to go around the "Whale" either this afternoon or Monday and
head for Green Turtle Cay and check out the surrounding Cays before heading
back to the states.
