We arrived in Rock Sound and went ashore, talked with some other boaters and ate a great meal at Sammies the following day. Warnings of another heavy front sent all of the boats to the west side of the sound and it hit during the night. Rain and high winds proved a difficult ride to shore with Skipper, but at least we were on the lee side of the peninsula. A call for help came over the radio as a couple from South Africa on a catamaran, wanted to know if anyone knew anything about ciguatera poisoning. Janet is a nurse practitioner and was familiar with it. They had been sick after eating some fish and needed help. After contacting the local clinic, the medic confirmed that it was probably correct and what meds would help until they could get to the clinic. After everyone checking their med cabinets none could be found,so a trip across the sound to the harbor in 30 kt winds to the clinic. Peter and I volunteered to go across to the Gov't dock and up the stairs to the clinic for meds. The sic couple offered their dinghy as it was larger with a more powerful engine, so off we went. , The Gov't dock was well protected, but as with some Bahamian things the stairs were not. The concrete wall being to high for us to climb, we went to the other dock which was exposed to the wind. We got to shore and picked up the medicine (after lunch hour) and returned to find the wind had increase making it impossible to get in the dinghy. We decided to wait for a slack to board the dinghy. Finally after several hours we decided that we had to get back and i managed to get in and the motor started but Peter was having a problem with the painter as it was caught in a crack. After several drenchings by waves coming over we got off the dock. The trip 2/3rds of the way was keep low and hang on. The last part was in the lee and to us unbelievably calm. The couple Graham and Fiona, on Kairos were extremely grateful. The following morning they were able to go to the clinic and were put on an IV drip and had to return the next day.
Thursday2/12/15 we sailed to Little San Salvador and spent a rough nite there. Friday we left for Cat Island with good wind all the way to New Bite. Saturday we climbed to the Hermitage at the highest point in the Bahamas and what a view. saturday evening we went to the Fish Fry Village on the beach at New Bite. The weather predicted another heavy front with west winds, which are not great on Cat I, so we decided to move to Georgetown on Great Exuma Island
