We left GTC and once again sailed to Spanish Cay deciding not to stay at Spanish as most of it is private, but we at least were there. We then came back to Powell and met with friends for a bonfire on the beach. A great time was had by all. The next a.m. proved interesting as we ran out of propane and the refill place is Marsh Harbor. We can get by for a while on small tanks , but no coffee in the a.m. makes for a distraught Francie, and yes Ken also. The day promised to be a fairly good one so we decided to make a run for Marsh Harbor, which means sailing around the dreaded Whale Cay Cut, and timing the tides and currents. We let out the jib to catch the little wind that was showing. I t increased and before long we were sailing at a good clip. We headed around the Whale and even though we were really close hauled, still sailing. We made it 32 nm to Marsh Harbor on the same tack. Quite a feat for us except when ocean sailing.
The following morning we took our propane tank to be filled and on to Maxwell's for food provisioning as it is a truly great supermarket. Along the way we met Tom & Ginny, who had crossed from Florida with us. They were heading back to Man O War Cay the following day. We told them that we were going as well, because we had seen a boat advertised that interested us. They asked what boat and we told them an Albin 36 trawler, to which they asked which one as there were two and one had just sold. When we told them Both Sides Now they smiled and said that the owners were good friends and that they were in Marsh Harbor would we like to meet them and look at Both Sides Now. We said yes as long as everyone knew we were only looking, not ready to buy yet.
We met Jean and Lou on the dock and got our first look at BSN. We were invited aboard all three of us, to which Skipper stretched out on the deck and closed his eyes, not a good sign? Lou and Jean showed us all about the boat and answered our questions for quite a while. We left to go back to Release and have happy hour. I asked Francie what she found wrong with BSN and her answer was that she had found nothing. My answer being the same, we should look at her again tomorrow. Francie and I have looked at a number of boats and can be quite critical, so finding this one that we felt was quite good, surprised as well as scared us. Contacting Lou & Jean the next a.m. we asked for another look around before they left for Man O War. After looking her over some more and knowing that they needed to leave, they invited us to come to Man O War at some point and take a sea trial. Once again we had found very little wrong with her.
We went back to Release and Sue and Jeff Erickson friends on " Faith" came over for a visit. After telling them about BSN, Sue said that boat is talking to you, you better listen. We will sleep on it and think tomorrow.
