2/21-2-25/16 Powell Cay,Bonefish Cay, High Cay

We left GTC on Sunday 2/21 sailing to Powell Cay.  We pulled in close to an exposed wreck and dropped  anchor in 6-8 ft of water hiding from a SE wind.  We dinghied ashore and took the path through to the beach on the eastern side.  We located a couple of prizes in the shell department and made note of the fact that we had not been to High Cay and Bonefish Cay.  That 's what or plan for Monday would be.  Monday being  FSB's B day, and as I had searched all of the stores on Powell Cay looking for the perfect gift, without success, I decided to give her a vacation in the Bahamas.  We toured the area around Bonefish deciding not to go ashore as there were 3 or 4 cottages on that small cay, but content to take a few pictures.  We moved on to High Cay which had a few buildings, but nobody there and went ashore on the beach.  It looks as though someone started a development and left. Beach was fine, but lots of shallow water around it.  We dinghied back to a stretch of beach on Powell that we had not explored, so Francie & Skipper walked back to the cross path and I went around with the dinghy to pick them up.  We then tried to get around the NW  side of the cay but ocean swells were a bit much for the dinghy, so  were content to check the beach on the south side.  I even climbed to Bluff Point, while Francie found a path to the ocean beach. We spent a peaceful evening and upon waking in the AM noticed our anchorage being evacuated.  We packed a lunch and trekked across to ocean beach, which we had not been before.  Returning to our dinghy, we decided to try some snorkeling and had a fine time checking the coral and fish in the area.  Wednesday we headed back to GTC as another front was coming through. Powell Cay deserves another visit and we hope to do it.  We had quite a rousing sail in 28 kt winds and managed to arrive a little after high tide, but came in without bumping.
