We left Castleton at 6Am and made the Troy lock opening at 7AM. There were two other boats that went through with us, but they separated and went west on the Erie Canal and we N on the Champlain Canal. We were fortunate to have mostly quick openings all the way up, even though we were traveling mostly alone. We stopped after going through lock 8 and spent the night tied to the wall where Skipper could come and go as he wished. We talked on the phone to family and arranged for a vehicle at Chipman Point for Sunday afternoon which we felt we could make easily. When we arrived there was a LCI fishing derby going on and it was quite busy. We arranged with Chip to step the mast on Monday. Our vehicle arrived with CJ, Esther,Andrew and Callie. Then Mike,Stephanie,Jenna, and Abigail arrived. Next Wendy, Ted, Hanna,Emily and Mathew came in with picnic baskets. Mike had brought a grill with him and everybody made salads. We had quite a cookout for our arrival in Vt. We left to go home to get parts for the top of the mast before it was stepped and returned at 7AM the next morning.
We met with Debbie and Kevin Stone, who keep their sailboat Grace at Chipman point. They helped us getting the mast up and the boat put back together to sail the next day. We spent an enjoyable evening eating snacks and having some Dark & Stormies. A great time was had by all.
