11/11--11/13 outside to St.Marys and Ferindina beach

We departed Daufuski at 0800, an hour later than last year and assumed we would arrive at St Marys aroud 9am the 12th. We had a great motor sail down the Savanah River and a NW wind on the ocean. It was quite brisk and we shut off the engine and sailed. What a great feeling, Release doing what she was designed for. We had thought that perhaps we might come back in at St Simons Inlet to see Bill and Barb on Snow Goose, but arrive in the dark and it was unfamiliar to us. We elected to continue to St. Marys Inlet which we have at least been in at. Our speed was such that we arrived there 8 hours early and went in with the instruments at midnight. We sailed until we turned north to anchor at Cumberland Island. We managed to get a good hook with the anchor a little south of the dock and spent a quiet rest of the night. Skipper was ready for shore at 0600, and we managed to see turkeys, wild horses and Armadillos as we took our shore walk. The 3 of us went and explored later and saw a part of the island that we missed on our previous visit. Around 1200 we decided to go to Ferindina Beach and take a mooring, but they were taken . We did manage dock space though, and manage to get laundry, showers, and some shopping done. To our surprise we got a call from Lu and Mike and they had gone outside at St Simons that morning and were going to join us that evening. They were a little beat up as the seas were not as kind as we had the day before, but made it safely. We all went for breakfast saturday morning and did some boat chores before leaving at noon.
